This vessel will be a strong addition to the PLAN. And, despite the comments of it being for only test and research, and comments from writers on this site that there will be no weapons employed, it will be used to train PLAN personnel and aircraft and vessels in carrier operations, and will be a fully functional war ship, capable of being used to assert PRC interests, and defend them if need be, wherever the PRC leadership thinks it is necessary.

The J-15 will be a very strong strike fighter flying off of ita decks. It will upset the balance in the WESTPAC. Outside of the US, there is no other nation in the WESTPAC with as strong a capability...and the PLAN will build more. In fact, all indications are that two more are already under constrruction in Shanghai.

Note the very strong defense weapons system on this carrier. 3 CIWS 10-barrel, 30mm weapons...4 FL-3000N anti-missile systems with 18 missiles each totaling 72 missiles. Very strong weapons systems for self defense for a vessel with no weapons.

Not to mention the wing of J-15 strike fighters which it will carry which are its principle weapon.

This will be a very strong aircraft carrier. To say it is not going to be a warship is like the Japanese trying to pass off their new Hyuga Class and the building 22DDH class carriers as ""destroyers."
